Where the specification changes street by street
Terrigal runs from the beachfront and the lagoon up some genuinely steep ground towards the ridge, and the roofing requirement changes as you climb. That is not a slogan — it is how the published steel selection bands work.
Within roughly 100 metres of breaking surf, BlueScope's roofing guidance moves past painted steel and points to stainless. From about 100 to 200 metres, COLORBOND Ultra is the nominated grade. Beyond around 200 metres, standard COLORBOND comes back into play. And fasteners to AS 3566 Class 3 are not intended for use within 400 metres of the ocean or other severe marine influence, which covers a great deal of Terrigal.
So two houses on the same street can need different hardware. We measure rather than guess. Call (02) 4307 5050.
The fixings go first
On a Terrigal roof, the sheets are rarely the first casualty. Screws, brackets, rivets, valley irons and flashings are. A premium roof fitted with standard inland fixings fails at the fixings, usually somewhere you cannot see until a sheet starts lifting in a southerly.
Worth knowing: stainless fasteners are not recommended for use with COLORBOND or COLORBOND Ultra, because of the dissimilar-metal reaction. The right answer inside the marine bands is a fastener class matched to the sheeting, not the shiniest thing on the shelf.
Steep blocks and big rebuilds
Terrigal has two kinds of job. Original cottages and 1970s brick homes that have reached the end of their roof life, and substantial rebuilds where the roof is a design element rather than a cover.
Both are complicated by access. Steep driveways, tight sites and two and three-storey elevations mean scaffold costs are real and need to be in the quote rather than appearing later. We price access honestly because pretending it is free helps nobody.
What we do here
Roof repairs for leaks and failed flashings, metal and Colorbond roofing specified to the measured exposure band, gutter repair and replacement in matching grade, and roof restoration on tile roofs where the tiles themselves are still sound.
