Roofing at The Entrance

Roof and gutter repairs at The Entrance, where Tuggerah Lake meets the ocean and both exposures hit the same roof. Call (02) 4307 5050.

Two water bodies, one roof

The Entrance is built around the channel where Tuggerah Lake empties into the ocean, which means a lot of properties here are exposed to both environments at once. Surf-driven salt from the beach side. Humid, brackish, slow-drying air off the lake and the channel on the other.

Those are genuinely different corrosion mechanisms, and the published steel selection guidance treats them as separate categories with separate distance thresholds. A roof here can be ticking both boxes.

A very mixed set of roofs

The Entrance has one of the most varied housing stocks on the Coast:

  • Original fibro holiday shacks from the asbestos era, some barely altered.
  • Postwar and 1960s brick cottages.
  • Walk-up units and motel-era blocks with long low roofs and box gutters.
  • Modern apartment buildings along the waterfront.
  • Renovated beach houses with contemporary metal roofs.

Roof age and material therefore vary house by house. Nothing about the street tells you what is on the roof next door.

What we are called to

  • Gutter corrosion — the most common single job here. A gutter holds water by design, and in humid brackish air it never properly dries. See gutter repair and replacement.
  • Corroded fasteners on metal roofs, failing long before the sheets do.
  • Box gutter failures on unit blocks and older additions, where a blockage sends water inside rather than over the edge.
  • Ridge pointing and slipped tiles on the older brick-and-tile homes.
  • Storm and wind damage, which this part of the Coast catches squarely — see storm and emergency roof repairs.

Fibro, asbestos and older roofs

Where a house still has original asbestos cement roofing or eave sheeting, the rules change: it is never high-pressure cleaned, and removal above 10 square metres of non-friable material requires a licensed removalist in NSW. Central Coast Council accepts household asbestos at Buttonderry and Woy Woy by prior booking, for material generated within the LGA. We identify it at the inspection and set out the compliant path before quoting.
